How do I utilise my network?

Your network are all the people that you have a connection with, directly and indirectly, that can support your fundraising. Below are some of the ways to utilise your network effectively to reach your target...

Get them to donate

The easiest way to get your network involved in your challenge is for them to donate money towards your fundraiser. Although the amount you can get from this varies, we say that the average person can get at least Β£50 from this alone. Make sure that you are sharing your fundraising page to as many people as you can through chatting to people, posting in group chats, posting on social media, or even sending out a group email.

Get their business to sponsor you

Does a friend or family member of yours have a small business that they have that could sponsor you? Or does a connection know of a business owner who would want to sponsor your cause? You could strike up a deal with a sponsor that if they donate Β£X amount to your page, you will promote their products or services on social media or wear any branded items on the challenge to raise awareness. This is also a great way for small businesses to get exposure and be more socially responsible.

Get them to share your fundraiser

Even though everyone in your immediate network (friends and family) will want to donate to your cause, unfortunately some people may not have the funds to do so (it’s SO much fun being a student!). However, this doesn’t mean they can’t get involved with your fundraising! Firstly, see if they will share your fundraiser onto their social media platforms and into their group chats. This will expand your network to people who may not have otherwise seen your posts. You could get a few extra donations this way due to those people resonating with the charity or challenge.

Get them to organise an event with you

Another way for someone in your network to help with your fundraising is to have them help you organise a fundraising event. Whether they know someone who works in a pub who could offer you the space for free, or are a wizard at making promotional materials, there are so many ways for someone to volunteer their time to your cause.

Get them to organise an event at their work for your cause

Does a connection of yours have a close work group / society club / sports team? Maybe they could have a bucket collection for your fundraising in their office or space, where people can donate spare change overtime, or even host a coffee morning fundraiser for you. Either way, this is a great way for you to gain extra cash for your charity without having to plan much!

Get them to donate their items to a fundraiser you are organising

Maybe you have decided that one of the fundraising events you want to do involves selling items for cash (an auction, car boot sale, or selling on eBay/Depop). Why not ask your network if they have any items that are still in great condition that they would be happy to donate to the event to raise money? Better still, if you can’t get a small business to sponsor you via a donation (See Tip 2), you could ask if they would be happy to donate any of their products or services to support your event instead.

Get them to take part in events with you

Our final tip for utilising your network is for them to get involved in your fundraising events. For example, you may want to do Tough Mudder or a Fun Run as a fundraising event towards your challenge, so get others to run with you and be a team member - the more the merrier as they say!
This will also create great memories that they can share with their network, who may want to donate through association. It’s fun and useful!
