How do I organise a bucket collection?

Want to take part in a bucket collection? Read through this article to find out how you can do that.

Below are some things you need to think about if you are interested in organising your own bucket collection.

PLEASE NOTE: Your charity may have already organised bucket collections for you, so make sure to ask your charity rep if there are any bucket collection slots available, or if they can organise one for you before considering organising one yourself.

Location
Pick a date and time for your charity collection. You should be looking for areas around your university or home that you know a lot of people go to or pass through. This includes supermarkets, football grounds, and busy streets (usually near shopping centres).

Licensing
Once you have decided on a location, make sure to speak to whoever is responsible for the street / area you would like to use, and check if there are any policies about collecting money for charity there. You will definitely need a license for any bucket collection you do, so plan for this in good time. It can take up to 6 weeks to get a licence from the council. You will need to bring any documentation you receive with you when you’re collecting.

Promotion
If you want to make the most out of your bucket collection, you can advertise about it in advance. You can let your network know of your bucket collection on your social media platforms, and ask them to spread the word. You can even post about your bucket collection on local Facebook community groups.

Recruitment
Don't want to do it alone? Ask your network (friends or family) if they can volunteer a few hours of their day to collect with you for your cause. Doing it with another person not only means you raise more money for your cause, but it makes the bucket collection more enjoyable.

Get kitted out
Contact your charity ahead of time to request a t-shirt and bucket for the day.

Donations
Plan how you are going to bank your donations. See whether your charity can provide you with card readers or think about whether to add a QR code to your bucket that links to your fundraising page.

Make your bucket collection count
If you can, link your collection with a big event, such as Valentine's day, Easter, or another big day in the calendar.

During your fundraising collection...

  • Make yourself as visible as possible - try fancy dress!
  • Don’t shake your bucket - it is illegal!
  • Tell people why you’re collecting
  • Smile and make eye contact
  • Have fun and talk to people!

After your fundraising collection...

  • Bank your money and transfer to your bank account as soon as you can - get more than one person to count it!
  • Send documentation back to any authorities that gave you licensing
  • Send your bucket back once you have completed a bucket collection
  • Thank anyone who helped you on the day
  • Post on social media about your bucket collection and how much you raised - make sure to tag Endeavours Adventures too!

It’s important that you are safe and legal while fundraising, so please email your charity representative about how to go about organising a bucket collection responsibly.
