Asking people for support can be daunting, but it is beneficial. Find out how you can ask for donations here.
Asking people for support can be daunting, but it is beneficial. They can provide you with donations, venues or even advertisement. Plus, the worst that can happen is that they say 'no'!
Here are our top tips for asking for donations from individuals or groups:
- Make the message personal to the person or group. The more personal
you make each one, the most successful you are likely to be. - Explain to potential donors what you are doing and why. Tell them about the amazing challenge that you are taking on. Be sure to express your enthusiasm and why this challenge is so important. Also include information regarding the charity you are fundraising for.
- Let them know what are you asking for. If you are posting on social media or messaging in group chats, you would probably ask for a monetary donation. However, with businesses, you may want them to donate something towards a raffle, or if you are asking a school, you may want to ask if they will organise a fundraising event for your cause.
- Let them know what you can do for them in return. This is dependent on the donor, but for a business, you could put their logo on a shirt that you can wear throughout your challenge, or if it is a school, you can volunteer to speak about your fundraiser to the school.
- Tell them how their donation will make an impact. Look at your charity's website to see what projects their money could support.
- Finally, say thank you to them for either donating or reading your message!
Give it a bit of time (a week or two) before asking again for a donation. Also, make sure to respect a person or group's decision not to donate to your fundraiser.
